How my Cabochons are made.
The Pendants, Bracelets, Earrings and Rings designed by me are all handmade from scratch.
We take a piece of stone from somewhere in the mountains, dessert or even bottom of the river and bring it to the shop.
The Stone is cut into slices to expose the beauty and sometimes the explosion of the colors and patterns being hidden inside. For laic, those stones are just stones, for an experienced rock hunter they contain the treasure of potential.
I collect some of the stones myself, some of them are collected by my friends in different corners of the country. Some of the unique stones are purchased and cut the same way as the other stones, those native to our continent.
After the stones are cut comes the process of choosing which part should be developed into cabochon.
I always look for the most exquisite patterns but sometimes it is not possible to make the cut the way I want it. Here come the decades of experience of my friends who do all the lapidary work. Each one of them feels the stone and knows where the natural fractures can create future problems.
This part of work usually takes a few months till I get to work with those finished cabochons.
Here I must make an admission – I’m not the best when it comes to drawings, but I can’t complain about the imagination and sense of beauty given to me. Most of the times I already know what the stone will become at the stage of cutting it but here I give them an actual shape of setting.
I make my drawings and a description of material to use on each of the cabochons individually and send it all to my silversmiths.
To appreciate my stone cutters and my own work you have to see it yourself – pictures only give it part of the justice and part of the justice is injustice.
